When the Mercer Island High School drill team marches onto the gym floor, you know you’re in for something special. This group never ceases to amaze me, and each of their concerts is a delight.
The crowd can hardly contain their enthusiasm as the females take their positions, and it only gets better from here. They begin with a simple formation and end with a human ‘domino effect’. This is what truly gets the audience going.
They then take positions as part of a shifting pattern, eliciting further shouts from the audience. The real magic occurs when they strike the ground. Despite the fact that they can’t see one other, they’re perfectly in sync with each other and the music.
The most memorable aspect of the show is when they line up diagonally across the gym. They properly align and create an optical illusion and wave-like effect that is captivating to witness.
The females then lay on the floor, link arms, and pull each other in a wave pattern on the floor. It’s incredible to behold, and their sweet dance performance following is fantastic as well. This routine’s choreographer deserves recognition.
