Reese Witherspoon met Ryan Phillippe, her husband at the time, at her 21st birthday party in 1997. They got engaged a year later and tied the knot in a beautiful wedding in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1999. Soon after, they welcomed their first child, Ava Philippe. Reese revealed in an interview with Jay Leno that Ava’s name was inspired by the iconic Ava Gardner, who broke Frank Sinatra’s spell.

Currently studying at UC Berkeley, just north of San Francisco, Ava has opted to live in a dorm room instead of a lavish home like the rest of her family. Reese has openly expressed how difficult it was for her to see her daughter leave for college. She even admitted to shedding tears in Ava’s empty room. On the other hand, Ava shows her love and admiration for her mother by sharing pictures of Reese on her Instagram account.
Despite Reese Witherspoon’s divorce from Ryan Phillippe in 2007, she found love again with her second husband, Jim Toth, whom she married in 2011. Their son, Tennessee James Toth, was born in September 2012. Reflecting on motherhood, Reese recently connected with the book “Little Fires Everything,” stating that it perfectly captures the bittersweet emotions of watching your children grow up.
While studying in San Fransisco, Ava has also been exploring her creative side, just like her mother. She has made a mark in the fashion industry, even appearing in the lookbook for Rodarte’s Autumn 2018 collection alongside superstars like Danai Gurira and Tessa Thompson. With her talent and her mother’s unwavering support, there’s no doubt that Ava Phillippe will continue to shine.
