Happy Birthday Kate Winslet! Plus nine reasons why we think she’s awesome

Happy Birthday to Reading girl Kate Winslet! Take a look at our list of reasons why we think she’s great

Today is Reading girl Kate Winslet’s birthday.

Born on 1975 in our hometown, the actress has won an Academy award, an Emmy award, four Golden Globes, a Grammy, an AACTA Award, and three BAFTAs.

Kate began studying drama at the age of 11 at Redroofs Theatre School in Maidenhead.

Did you know at the age of 12, she appeared in a TV advert for Sugar Puffs?

She also starred in more than 20 productions for Reading’s Starmaker Theatre Company as a teenager.

From movies and awards, to speeches and her love for Leonardo DiCaprio, we’ve put together a list of reasons why we think she’s a pretty awesome lady.

Take a look at some of our favourite Kate Winslet moments and reasons why we love her.

1. That moment in Titanic

It had to appear in the list somewhere, grossing more than $2 billion worldwide.

It was the first film to reach the billion-dollar mark and remained the highest-grossing film of all time until James Cameron surpassed it with Avatar, which passed it in 2010.

Although, we still can’t get over Rose not making room for Jack on that door though.

2. When she admitted she uses emojis

When asked about her favourite emojis at the SAG awards 2016, Kate said: “I always use the poo one and the chicken… I like the heart but the one with the little pink heart and the other heart, that’s kind of girly so I like that one.”

3. When she said she loved Leonardo DiCaprio

It’s true, in an interview with WSJ for the October 2015 cover story, Kate said: “The whole point is for everybody to pick it up and go, ‘I’d like to thank my son and my dad’ — and you can always tell when someone has, because they’re in there a little bit longer after they flushed.

“They’ll come out looking slightly pink-cheeked. It’s hysterical.”

6. Her friendship with Leo is like any normal BFF’s

Kate Winslet was one of the only actors who didn’t wear a wet suit when filming Titanic, and ended up getting pneumonia and almost quitting as a result… now that’s what you call committed.

9. She’s not obsessed with looking good all the time

“There’s more to life than cheekbones.” – hear, hear, Kate. We salute you.

Happy Birthday Kate!
