A major animal rescue operation in Missouri has given dozens of dogs and two kittens a chance at a new life.
Animal Rescue Corps (ARC), working with National Mill Dog Rescue, helped rescue and transport 86 dogs and two kittens from commercial breeding operations across several counties in southern Missouri.
The rescue effort, called “Operation Eclipse,” took place around the time of a lunar eclipse, according to Animal Rescue Corps.
The rescued dogs included poodles, mini Australian shepherds, doodles, dachshunds and English bulldogs. Although many of the animals appeared to be in generally good physical condition, rescuers said they still needed veterinary examinations, grooming and time to become comfortable with human contact.
For some of the dogs, being handled and cared for by people was unfamiliar.
After the rescue, the animals were transported to the Animal Rescue Corps’ Rescue Center outside Nashville, Tennessee. There, veterinarians and rescue workers began providing medical examinations and grooming while giving the animals time to adjust to their new surroundings.
Two kittens were also transported with the dogs. Rescue officials said the kittens required additional medical attention.
The goal now is to help the animals recover physically and emotionally before they are placed with partner rescue organizations and eventually find permanent homes.
For the dogs, the rescue marks the beginning of a completely different chapter.
Instead of spending their lives in commercial breeding facilities, they will have the opportunity to experience regular human interaction, veterinary care, affection and, eventually, life with families who can give them the attention they deserve.
Animal rescue organizations say large-scale operations like this require significant resources, including veterinary care, transportation, food, grooming and foster or adoptive homes.
For these 88 animals, however, the journey toward a better life has already begun.
Their next stop could be a forever home. ❤️🐾
