President Donald Trump has issued a new warning to Iran after saying the United States detected activity at Pickaxe Mountain, a heavily fortified underground site located near Iran’s damaged Natanz nuclear complex.

Speaking Wednesday at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Trump said the United States was closely watching developments at the site and raised the possibility of another military strike.

What Is Pickaxe Mountain?

Pickaxe Mountain is located approximately 140 miles south of Tehran and about 2 kilometers from the Natanz nuclear complex.

The site contains two deeply buried tunnel complexes. Unlike parts of Natanz, which have already been struck during military operations, the Pickaxe Mountain tunnel facility itself has not been targeted, according to Reuters.

Trump has been publicly threatening potential strikes against the site since at least mid-July.

Tensions Rise Again

The warning comes as fighting between the United States, Israel and Iran has again intensified.

Iran said it attacked 10 ships near the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, after the United States sank five Iranian oil tankers, Reuters reported. The renewed attacks have disrupted one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.

Brent crude remained above $100 per barrel Thursday, adding to concerns about fuel prices and inflation around the world.

Trump Predicts When the War Could End

Trump also said he expects the conflict with Iran to end after the U.S. midterm elections in November.

However, Reuters noted that Trump has previously given timelines for an end to the conflict, and there is currently no confirmed agreement that would bring the fighting to a close.

Iran maintains that its nuclear activities are intended for peaceful purposes.

For now, Pickaxe Mountain is becoming another major focus as Washington watches for further activity around Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
