The French film world was deeply saddened by the passing of actress Nadia Farès at the age of 57. Known for her work in French cinema and television, Farès built a career that reached audiences both in France and internationally. Her death was announced by her daughters after she died in Paris following a serious incident at a swimming pool. French authorities and major media outlets reported the tragedy, while her family asked for privacy during their time of mourning.
Nadia Farès was born in Marrakech, Morocco, and grew up in Nice before moving to Paris to pursue her ambitions in the entertainment industry. She began appearing on screen during the 1990s and gradually established herself through a variety of film and television roles. Her determination helped her work with several well-known French filmmakers, allowing her to develop a career that extended across different genres and productions.
One of the defining moments of her career came with the 2000 thriller The Crimson Rivers, directed by Mathieu Kassovitz. The film brought Farès greater international recognition and remains one of the projects most closely associated with her career. She also appeared in productions such as The Wasabi, Nid de guêpes, and the television series Marseille, demonstrating her ability to move between cinema and television.
Farès continued pursuing creative opportunities throughout her later years. In addition to acting, she had begun preparing for an important new chapter as a filmmaker. Reports stated that she was working toward directing her first feature film, showing that her artistic ambitions continued to grow even after many years in front of the camera. Her plans reflected a desire to contribute to filmmaking from another perspective and to develop stories of her own.
Her final days began with a serious incident at a private sports club in Paris. Farès was found unconscious in a swimming pool and taken to the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, where she received emergency medical treatment and was placed in an induced coma. Her daughters later announced that she had died on April 17, 2026. Reports described the event as involving a cardiac incident, although authorities opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding what happened.
The news of her death prompted messages of sympathy from people connected to French cinema. Her daughters remembered her first and foremost as a mother, while colleagues and audiences reflected on the career she built over more than three decades. Her professional journey included French productions, international projects, television appearances, and creative ambitions that extended beyond acting.
Nadia Farès leaves behind a body of work that will continue to introduce new audiences to her talent. From her early appearances in French productions to her internationally recognized role in The Crimson Rivers, she created a distinctive place for herself in cinema.
